10//10//02 - Nusa Lembongan

After six weeks on Bali we decided to jump over to Nusa Lembongan, a small island east of Bali.

So we took a taxi to Sanur and then went over to Lembongan on a junkung, a small boat the local people use to bring things from Bali to the smaller islands, because on Lembongan for example there ist not much more than surfing, diving and cockfights.

Of course tourism already discovered this place, too, but in comparison to Bali, life is much more relaxed and when we were there, we were only some of a few tourists.

When it comes to Surfing, Nusa Lembongan offers three breaks: Shipwrecks, Lacerations and Playgrounds.

As the swell was small, Shipwrecks was the only wave breaking (and only at high tide, so the swell could come through) and we took a boat that brought us out to the reef. It was a shifty peak and sometimes the drop was a little bit difficult but with partly only 10 people out, we still did get some fun. Also the water was really, really cold (you wouldn't believe you're in a tropical area!), but therefore extremely clear.

After the surf session we went to a cockfight which was an interesting experience. The first fight we saw ended with one cock running away and into one of the houses nearby with about 10 Balinese running after and trying to catch it.

On fight number two we bet 30.000 Rp. which is about 3,50 Euro and luckily our cock knocked (actually ripped) the other one out. So we went home happy with the money to spend it on a meal at the beach.
