06//09//02 - Surfing Balangan
We still had our car because of our Medewi trip and so another daytrip led us down on the Bukit again to Balangan where we had been before.
We had a great surfing day with a medium to small swell, not to many people out, burning sunshine and a lot of fun.
Going out at low tide is no problem because you can walk almost all the way underneath the cliffs and then just jump into the water and paddle a few meters to get into the lineup.
At hightide you go the same way but paddling or go through the break directly which is, with a good timing, no problem either.
One problem at high tide can be the waves coming back from the beach going out to the ocean which can make the takeoff a little bit tricky or result in some funny wipeouts.
The next two days we also went to Balangan but this time with some Germans and one American who took us there with their car. The Germans also were studying on Bali two years ago and we met them in our hotel. We had some nice surf as well but not as good as the day before.
On the beach we met a guy from Peru who is doing surf videos and selling them to surf travellers and he showed us some scenes of Balangan when it was really big about a month ago. He captured some impressive rides back then!
